Have you ever fully committed yourself to reaching a goal, only to be overcome with joy and tears when it actually comes to fruition? That was my experience last night. After years of dreams, struggles, and hurdles, I finally succeeded in publishing my clean, contemporary romance novel.
The road to this point has been anything but smooth. Running my own business, battling health challenges, and squeezing in writing time felt like a constant uphill struggle. But I refused to let my dream die.
The Importance of Taking Your Work Seriously
In the past, I tried to rush things. My impatience led to publishing a novel I wasn’t fully proud of because I’d skipped crucial steps like editing and finding a great cover designer. That project withered on the vine, and I ended up withdrawing it.
I vowed to do it right this time, even if it took longer. I invested in a professional edit and worked with a talented cover designer. Learning these aspects of the business has been invaluable! Now, I hold the finished book with immense pride.
The Next Hurdle: Learning to Market
Anyone can upload a book, but to make it a success, you have to be savvy about marketing. I’m not after instant riches; my goal with this book is to learn and grow as an authorpreneur. I want to understand book launches, advertising, and how to reach the right readers. This is a whole new world for me, and if I’m being honest, it feels a bit overwhelming. But I’m excited about the challenge!
The Joy of Constant Improvement
I’m happy with my writing, but I want to improve. I’m actively studying my craft while taking note of reader feedback to help me improve with my following books.
Pursue Your Passion – It’s Never Too Late
The thought of never having written my novel makes me sad. I’m so glad I persevered, and I encourage you to do the same with your dreams. If you’d like to check out my clean romance novel (with a “healing through love” theme) where broken hearts find hope and happiness, let me know, and I’ll send you a link. It’s available on Kindle Unlimited and in paperback.
My Goal: Full-Time Author
I dream of someday writing novels full-time, but I know it’s a long road ahead. For now, I’ll keep juggling my other work alongside my passion project.
An Idea for Marketers: The Power of Storytelling
Speaking of other work, my question for you, fantastic marketing professionals, is this: do you think using illustrative “scenario” stories could be helpful? For instance, painting a picture of someone’s struggles and solutions could bring marketing techniques to life. Let me know your thoughts!
In the meantime, I’m taking a break today to make some delicious chicken enchiladas and spend time with family. Tomorrow, the work continues!
Remember, whatever your goals, keep pushing towards them. The joy of that first success will make all the struggles worth it!
